And China’s tourism industry has become one of the fastest-growing industries in the national economy. The total revenue of China’s tourism industry reached 2,250 billion yuan in 2011, up 20.8% from 2010. As for domestic market, top 10 destinations are Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Guangzhou, Guilin, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu and Kunming, according to the statistics of visitors receipts in 2011. While in outbound market, top 10s are respectively Hong Kong, Macau, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Australia, and Indonesia. Besides, the fall of US Dollar and Euro Dollar value push large number of visitors to go to USA and Europe countries, such as Germany, France, Italy and so on. According to the statistics, the total number of travel agency in China has achieved 23,865 at the end of 2011. And top 5 international travel service corporations are China International Travel Service (CITS), China Youth Travel Service (CYTS), Kanghui Travel Service, China Travel Service, and Shanghai Jinjiang International Travel Service.
What tourists usually buy? In France, for example, Chinese tourists usually go for perfume, cosmetics, apparel, watches, leather products, handbags and art work. During national holidays in 2011, the statistics showed that transaction amounts with CUP cards in the outbound market was up 48% compared with the same period last year, especially in England, Italy, USA, Germany, France such popular destinations, where transaction amount increased over 2 times. In addition, during discount seasons in western countries, like USA and France where produced luxury brands. For instance, consumers could buy Coach, Calvin Klein, Clinique, Victoria’s secret from America, and ilSander, Joseph, Christian Lacroix, LV, Chanel, NinaRicci from France.
