NYU is the abbreviated name for New York University. It was established in 1831, and is one of America’s biggest privately owned universities. The curriculum has the reputation of being ‘not high pressure, but demanding’.

The business school of NYU is also world-renown. With New York being one of the world’s financial centers, its majors of finance and marketing came into the top ten of the rankings of Business Week, The Economist, and Financial Times. The Courant Institute of NYU, established in 1934, is now America’s top research institute of applied mathematics. NYU’s Law School specialized in the law of tax, international law, and in jurisprudence. Its Schack Institute of Real Estate is a famous senior market research institute in America’s Real Estate industry.
NYU has overseas researching and learning institutions in many countries outside of America. It has set up summer schools for its undergraduates in London, Paris, Prague, Ankara, Madrid, Shanghai(上海) and Buenos Aires. In 2007, it established an art school in Singapore. In the same year, it created a branch school in Israel, but enrollment was delayed due to the elevating Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In October 15, 2012, NYU cooperated with East China Normal University to set up NYU Shanghai(上海).
New York is an international metropolitan hub, and there are a large numbers of immigrants from over 180 countries throughout the world. Caucasians make up 37% of the total population, African Americans make up 28%, Latin Americans make up 27%, and Asians make up 10%. With such multicultural diversity, NYU holds an open attitude to students in China. The law school of Peking University(北京大学) has exchange programs set up with NYU regularly. The school sends one student in the spring and one student in the fall to NYU every semester. Also, Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management (清华大学经济管理学院) also has established an exchange program with NYU, which particularly targets MBA students. Wenzhou University(温州大学) has short-term month-long exchange programs for students. Lastly, Shanghai Theatre Academy has regular exchange programs with NYU and New York Film Academy.
