Mobility in China: Benchmark of Mobility Offers and Financing Models for a Financial Services Company

Client profile

The client is the financial services provider for some of the biggest car manufacturers, offering finance and services addressing individuals and businesses that are purchasing new and used cars.

The company is regularly conducting benchmarks and audits of new mobility offers and financing models – as a lot of models have been emerging in recent months, transforming the company’s approach and services provided. A lot of new players are from Asia, especially for mobility innovation and for the financing of electric cars.

Objective

The client is aiming to anticipate what to expect in the European market in the next few years.

They contacted Daxue Consulting to conduct a comprehensive audit of the current mobility offer in Asia, break down the associated financing models, and qualify their global scalability potential. The brand is looking to then anticipate the competition coming on the European market as well as identifying some takeaways for its innovation process.

Research process & methodology

Daxue Consulting decided to structure the research around a 2-step sequence:

Step 1: Comprehensive listing and mapping of mobility offers in Asia

Step 2: Deep dive into the scalability potential of the targeted offers

This step aims to introduce the full mobility spectrum and validation of the mobility offers or financing models to be prioritized in further deep dive. The research was divided into:

  • Country-level assessment and listing of mobility offers through desk research, online scanning and interviews with potential referents or insiders
  • Categorization and association with financing models, achieved through online benchmark and mystery calls

We then moved on to a breakdown of how the top Asian innovations answer the user expectations and recommend the course of action for the client. Here we also divided our work into two steps:

  • Qualification of the model user experience relevancy, achieved through desk research and social listening, as well as interviews with insiders within some of the targeted offers’ companies
  • Collection of illustrative case studies. We did online benchmarking and scanning of media coverage and corporate reporting and organized mystery calls.

Outcome

Our final report presented a comprehensive audit of the current mobility offer in Asia, recommendations for financing models and scalability potential. We also analysed strategies and mobility offers of key competitors on the European market and carried workshops presenting the top Asian innovations to be anticipated on the European market and the recommended course of action for our client.
