Most malls in Beijing are in the CBD, near Zhongguancun(中关村), or near big subway stations such as Dongzhimen and Xizhimen.
Malls near CBD
CBD is the abbreviation for central business district, which is the main district in a city where the business activities are conducted. Generally speaking, a CBD is the central location for the city’s economy, technology and culture. It is the center of a city’s finance, trade, service, exhibition, and consulting enterprises. Manhattan, for example, is the CBD of New York.
Huamao(华贸) Center is located in the east of Guomao Bridge on Chang’an Street. It established the new CBD landmark in Beijing(北京). It is designed for international companies with high standards. The Ritz-Carlton and the Marriott own locations in this center. Also, there are 50,000 square meters of business buildings, 180,000 square meters of business centers and 150,000 square meters of international apartments. The enterprises who own offices in the business buildings include: Deutsche Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Banque de l’Indochine, Korea Stock Exchange, Marriott International Group, and ITOCHU.
Wanda Plaza, located 300 meters east of Guomao Bridge, encompasses 10 hectares. Wanda Plaza is divided into two sections. The north section, whose total floor area is 300,000 square meters. It is composed of four business buildings, commercial streets, luxury business clubs, conference centers, and a specially designed urban forest plaza. There south section includes a Sofitel Hotel and big complex complexes such as Wal-Mart, Time-Warner, and Food Republic.
Jianwai Soho is also in CBD district. This center contains a total of 18 buildings, 16 streets, and 300 shops. In the buildings there are swimming pools, tennis courts, squash halls, health clubs, cafes and bars. It has been estimated that over 50,000 people reside, work, and entertain here every day. The famous brands that have locations in Jianwai Soho include Starbucks, Tongrentang(同仁堂), and Yuxiang Kitchen.
Malls in Zhongguancun, Dongzhimen and Xizhimen
Dazhongsi Zhongkun Plaza is close to subway line 13. It has a land area of 140,000 square meters and transportation to and from the plaza is very convenient. It places a lot of attention into creating the feelings of experience, entertainment, and comfort for its customers. Carrefour, Pizza hut, Yoshinoya, KFC, and McDonalds all have locations in this plaza.
Yinzuo Mall lies just beside Dongzhimen subway station. It has a total floor area of 31,000 square meters and has five floors in total. It highlights an atmosphere of leisure shopping thanks to the 80 million yuan spent on interior decorations for the mall. Now, famous brands such as Levi’s, Fornarina, Artini, Quiksilver, Modern Beauty and Okashi Land have locations within Yinzuo Mall.
Zhongguancun Plaza provides five functions: luxury shopping, a walking street, famous brand shopping, a movie theater, and a supermarket. It is connected to subway line 4 and 10 and has now become an ideal place for shopping for people in the surrounding districts. Here you can find famous brands such as Easy Shop, Watsons, Nike Golf, Disney, Nike, Adidas, Enzo, and Haagen-Dazs.
